Wake up Joondalup

Minutes from August meeting

After more than a decade of delayed projects, Joondalup’s capital works pipes are starting to clear.

During the previous mayor’s time, it seemed to me like nothing could simply be practical and fit for purpose. Always the need for gold taps!

The result was project paralysis. Plans grew grander and more expensive, while those communities waiting for the promised facilities got no closer to seeing them built.

This week’s decisions on Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club and Heathridge Park mark a welcome change in approach under the current Mayor and new CEO.

At Sorrento, the focus is returning to a more affordable and practical redevelopment with a realistic prospect of being funded and built – finally!

And the long neglected Heathridge Park project was also endorsed, with a measured four-stage approach.

Stage 1 will focus the new community sporting facility and vital tennis court works in a way that prioritises the most important work now, allowing the remaining stages to proceed as funding becomes available.

It’s the kind of pragmatic, get-the-job done approach we love to see. More of this please!

So the Golden Plunger Award goes to the prospect of two of Joondalup’s longest-standing project blockages finally beginning to clear.

Let’s start a movement CoJ! 🪠
